Whether you're travelling alone, with friends, or as a family - discover the nature thriving on the edge of Paris
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city for the weekend – in Suresnes, you can connect with nature and recharge your batteries. Start your getaway as you mean to go on, with a visit to the Parc du Château where you can stroll among the exquisitely kept gardens. Continue your adventure by exploring the wooded trails of Mont-Valérien, with its stunning natural landscape and breathtaking views across Paris. Next, don't miss the chance to soak up the history of Mont-Valérien, a listed Haut Lieu de Mémoire (national memorial) due to the key role it played during the Second World War. Indeed, this was the main site used by the German authorities in France to execute Resistance fighters and hostages by firing squad. The Mémorial de la France Combattante was erected in honour of those killed here, and was inaugurated by General de Gaulle on 18 June 1960. The fortress of Mont Valérien is also home to the 8th Régiment des Transmissions (Signals Regiment), the Colombier militaire National (National Military Dovecote), the Musée de la
Colombophilie militaire (a museum dedicated to the history of military carrier pigeons) and the Musée annexe des Transmissions (Signals Museum). The Suresnes American Cemetery is the final unmissable stop on your tour of Mont-Valérien. This 3-hectare memorial site was established in 1917 during the First World War, and accommodates the graves of 1,541 American soldiers who died in combat, along with 24 unknown soldiers who fell during the Second War. A chapel of remembrance and two ornately decorated memorial chambers are dedicated to the memory of both global conflicts. As you wend your way downhill, marvel at the 4,800 vine stocks stretching across the Mont- Valérien hillside and dating back to the end of the Roman Empire. Beyond the vineyard lies a sight you won’t find anywhere else in Suresnes: an uninterrupted view of the Eiffel Tower! In the centre of this hectare of cultivated land, you’ll discover a modern building housing the cave, or wine cellar, and designed according to the plans of renowned oenologist, Jacques Puisais.
Nestled slightly further down the hillside of Mont-Valérien is the Terrasse du Fécheray viewing area with its magnificent green backdrop, prized for its natural beauty and 180° view of the French capital.
